Embark on a captivating walking tour, starting at the Moray Amphitheater, an Incan agricultural laboratory. Centuries ago, the Incas used this site to experiment with different crop varieties, thanks to its unique microclimates that mimic various ecological zones. Our journey continues with a brief stop in Maras, where you’ll admire the charming colonial architecture. Next, we head to Salineras, the ancient pre-Inca salt mines still in use today by local villagers. Finally, we’ll visit the majestic Machu Picchu, the crown jewel of Incan civilization, where you’ll immerse yourself in its history and beauty.
Itinerary
Day 1: Exploring the Sacred Valley & Journey to Aguas Calientes
Your adventure begins with a hotel pick-up between 7:50 am and 8:30 am. We’ll head to Moray, an ancient agricultural terrace site where you can enjoy stunning landscapes and learn about the Incas’ innovative farming techniques. Next, we’ll visit the salt mines of Maras, where you can observe the centuries-old salt extraction process. Afterward, a private transport will take us to the Ollantaytambo Fortress, a strategic Incan military and religious site. From there, you’ll board the train to Aguas Calientes, where a transfer will be waiting to take you to your hotel.
Day 2: Machu Picchu Adventure
The day starts early with a 6:00 am bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu. At 7:00 am, we’ll arrive at the magnificent Inca citadel, where a guided tour will begin. After the tour ends at 10:00 am, you’ll have free time to explore the site at your own pace or hike Huayna Picchu (additional cost of $25, advanced booking required), a renowned mountain with panoramic views. In the afternoon, starting at 3:00 pm, we’ll take the return train to Ollantaytambo, where our transport will be waiting to bring you back to your hotel in Cusco.
